ARD workers cross all hurdles

By Our Correspondent

OKARA, Sept 10: About 12 wagons, comprising activists of the PPP and PML-N, managed to reach Lahore to participate in the ARD public meeting despite hurdles created by the local police on Sunday.

Reports said that the PPP’s main group was led by party’s district president and MPA Muhammad Ashraf Khan Sohana, Chaudhry Muhammad Ashraf Sangoka, Alam Sher Lodhi and Ghias Muhammad Khan. While Abdul Sattar Wahla, Syed Ijaz Gilani and Rao Muhammad Rafique led the other group.

Similarly, one group of the PML-N was led by MPA Mian Yawar Zaman and the other by Mirza Naeem Banj.

They alleged that the Okara police had tried to block their way at Pul Jurian while transporters, at the beck and call of the police, charged from them almost three-fold fair for Lahore.

CHILD LABOUR: The NGO `Spark’ has organized a joint group discussion of lawyers and journalists to create awareness about rights of the child protection.

The discussion in context with child labour, begging and depriving children of education was held at a local hotel on Sunday.

NGO representatives Fahmina Naz and legal coordinator Sajjad Cheema briefed the participants about the working of Spark in this connection. DBA President Chaudhry Habibur Rehman, senior lawyers Syed Maqbool Hussain, Chaudhry Maqbool Gujjar and journalists were also present on the occasion.
