KARACHI: PPP sets up relief camps for rain-hit people
KARACHI, Sept 10: The PPP, Karachi chapter, set up a central relief camp at the People’s Secretariat and one camp each in five districts of the city to collect relief goods for the rain-affected people of the province.
The camps have been set up under the directive of the PPP Sindh chief Syed Qaim Ali Shah.
Stating this, President of PPP Karachi Division Rashid Rabbani said here on Sunday that the City Area organisations of the party would also set up relief camps in their respective areas.
Syed Qaim Ali Shah, in his statement, expressed deep grief over the loss of precious lives in the devastating rains in the province, and criticised the government for its failure in mitigating sufferings of the affected people.
He pointed out that the fresh spells of rains had destroyed standing crops and scores of houses but the government was taking no measures to provide relief to the affected people.
“The entire Hyderabad city is under four to five-feet water and boats are being used to rescue the marooned families. A large number of people in different localities is still waiting to be rescued. Besides, there are reports of the outbreak of water-borne diseases and shortage of drinking water and food in the flooded areas,” Qaim Ali Shah said.
He said that the situation had exposed the rulers’ tall claims. He demanded that the rain-affected districts of lower Sindh be declared calamity-hit areas.
Sindh Deputy Information Secretary of PPP Waqar Mehdi criticised the city government Karachi for failure in overcoming power cuts and traffic jams.—PPI
