KARACHI: Uplift of villages top priority: Nasreen

KARACHI, Sept 10: City Naib nazim Nasreen Jalil has said that the city government intends to plant 0.1million saplings on 100 acres while a chairlift will also be installed there for visitor's recreation.

She made these observations during a visit to Thaddo Dam in UC-3 of Gadap Town where she also planted a tree.

She further stated that boating and other recreations will be provided in Thaddo Dam lake.

The Naib said that development of villages is in the priority list of city government, and construction of small dams would be of great help in bringing agriculture land under cultivation and resultant progress of villages.

Stressing the need for more small dams, she pointed out that these can be constructed in the area between hills near the Dam and city government will start working on it.

She invited the private sector to come forward for providing recreational facilities and assured of extending them city government cooperation in this regard.

She said that attention is being given on development of Karachi villages as model goths so that all basic amenities are made available there.

It was for this reason that City Nazim Mustafa Kamal has set up a “Goth Infrastructure Fund” and Rs 200 million have been allocated in the 2006- 07 budget initially which can be raised further when needed.

Nasreen Jalil directed the Nazim of Gadap Town to take all steps for improvement of Thaddo dam approach roads.

It may be mentioned here that the provincial government constructed this dam on 30,000 acres at a cost of Rs 220 million. It has 40 feet depth and water is used to irrigate lands around the dam.

Meanwhile, Nazim of Shah Faisal Town, Mohammed Imran has said that development schemes of old villages in the town’s jurisdiction would be completed on an emergency basis.—APP
