KARACHI: Action against unlicensed medical stores

KARACHI, Sept 10: Action will soon be initiated against medical stores being run in katchi abadis without a drug licence, and wholesale chemists have been asked not to sell medicines to medical stores who do not have drug licence.

Talking to a delegation of Pakistan Chemists and Druggists Association at his office, the chief drug inspector Sindh, Salahuddin Tunio, said that the procedure for renewal of drug licence will be simplified.

He observed that some elements offer fake dispenser certificates to innocent chemists for hefty amount, and asked the medical stores and wholesale chemists to avoid submitting fake documents for drug licence. He advised them to display drug licence conspicuously. He also asked the wholesale chemists to imprint their drug licence number at their shop shutter in green colour and in black colour by retail chemists.

The delegates said that chemists do abide by laws but some black sheep in the drug administration put the applicants of drug licence to inconvenience by resorting to delaying tactics just to mint money.

Tunio said if formal complaint is lodged in this regard, he would take action against the elements involved in illegal practices.

He said he would submit a proposal to the secretary of health for opening more than one centre for issuance of drug licence in Karachi.—APP
