KARACHI, Sept 10: The Sindh Assembly is meeting on Monday in a requisitioned session summoned by Speaker Syed Muzaffar Hussain Shah to consider a no-confidence motion against deputy speaker Rahila Tiwana.
The opposition had submitted requisition for the session on Aug 29 soon after the prorogation of the House by the deputy speaker when members of the opposition parties tried to discuss the situation created by the assassination of Nawab Akbar Bugti.
In the requisition application, the joint opposition had charged that the deputy speaker was not running the House in accordance with the rules of business of the assembly, and was partial.
The PPP-Parliamentary Party, which is the single largest party in the House, on Monday evening met at the residence of the Leader of Opposition Nisar Ahmad Khuhro and formulated its strategy for the session while MMA parliamentary party will meet on Monday morning before the session after the joint meeting of the opposition leaders.
Earlier, leaders of the ruling coalition parties met on Saturday evening at the Chief Minister’s House and discussed strategy to defeat the opposition move.
Leader of the House Dr Arbab Rahim directed the members of the ruling coalition to ensure their presence in the session.
Talking to Sindh ministers Syed Sardar Ahmed, Syed Sadruddin Shah Rashdi, Irfanullah Khan Marwat, Mir Manzoor Khan Panhwar and Senator Abdul Ghaffar Qureshi at Chief Minister House on Saturday, Dr Arbab Rahim criticized the opposition’s attitude and said it was wasting time on non-issues. But, he said, the opposition would face defeat in the no-trust move.
While the entire province, he said, is facing rain calamity, the opposition, instead of doing something better for the welfare of the people, is involved in various other activities to engage the government and to keep it away from relief work.
The opposition and the government side members should immediately go to Hyderabad and other rain-affected districts instead of sitting in Karachi, he said.
The MPAs on the government side wanted to go to their constituencies because they are pained by the havoc caused by rains while most of the PPP MPAs are sitting in Karachi as they don't want solution of problems of people and they think that they don't need public support, but PPP ticket for their success in the election. But, he said that people of Sindh are now more conscious and could not be swayed away by opposition's catchy and lucrative slogans.
Dr Arbab said keeping in view their negative role, the people of Sindh should hold them accountable as to what service they had been doing by moving no-confidence resolutions every now and then.
