LAHORE, Sept 9: The recently held elections of the Pakistan Bodybuilding Federation (PBF) were termed as illegal and unconstitutional at a press conference held on Saturday by a senior Punjab Bodybuilding official. PBF secretary Dr. Javed Akhtar, a former Mr. Pakistan, challenged the legal status of PBF polls held at Islamabad last Thursday which saw Col. Mohammad Yahya getting elected as president.
Dr. Javed, who also attended the election meeting as PBA's representative last week, raised an objection at the participation of the representatives from Capital Zone and Judges Association as voters.
Javed, explaining his stance, said he had objected that there was no Capital Zone registered with the PBF while the Judges Association had no right to vote.
“According to the PBF constitution, only 12 members affiliated with the PBF aree eligible to cast vote. There are two votes from each province and one each from four departments namely Wapda, Police, Railways and Army,” clarified Javed He said that he requested the three-member election commission comprising Abdul Khaliq Khan (secretary POA), Khawaja Farooq Saeed (vice-president POA) and Major Mohammad Afzal (treasurer POA) to consider the Capital Zone and Judges Association representatives as observers only and not as voters.
“But the election commission, despite admitting that Capital Zone had been invited by mistake, was not ready to accept my request,” said an angry Dr Javed. He disclosed that as many as seven voters out of a total of 12 staged a boycott on the issue. “It is amazing that despite the boycott, the election commission elected the new body.”
Javed said PBA would demand from POA chief Syed Arif Hasan to intervene in the matter.
