Relief package for rain-hit people demanded

Bureau Report

HYDERABAD, Sept 9: The president of the Hyderabad chapter of the People’s Party Parliamentarians, Mr Zahid Bhurgari, has demanded that a relief package of Rs10 billion should be announced for the rain-hit people of the district.

He said that the package should be utilised under the supervision of high court judges.

Speaking at a press conference at the press club on Saturday, he said that many localities in Latifabad, Qasimabad and Hyderabad rural talukas had submerged but the district government had done nothing to help people.

Mir Fateh Talpur, Amanullah Siyal, Aftab Khanzada and Sikandar Hayat were present on the occasion.

He said that the district administration failed to handle the rain emergency and its much-talked stand-by generators remained closed during the rain.

He said that people had been facing diseases and waiting for food and water.

He demanded that Rs500,000 should be paid to heirs of those who died during the rain and Rs100,000 should be paid to injured.

He said that compensation should be given to those whose houses had been damaged.

Mr Bhurgari demanded that electricity bills and taxes should be immediately waived.

RURAL TALUKA: Hyderabad (rural) taluka nazim Khawind Bux Jahejo has said that the taluka has suffered irreparable losses during the rain.

He said that the district government had remained indifferent to the plight of half a million people of the taluka.

Speaking at a news conference at the press club on Saturday, he said that 170mm rain was recorded in urban talukas but 190mm rain was recorded in the rural taluka.

He said that the district government had totally neglected people of the rural taluka.

He said that people of the rural taluka had become orphans due to indifferent attitude of the district government.

The nazim said that he repeatedly appealed to the district government for help but as it belonged to a particular group, it did not come to rescue rural population.

He said that the Hyderabad DCO and other officials closed their telephones and ministers, who have come from Karachi, visited only urban areas but did not care to visit the rural taluka.
