Call for evacuating marooned people

MIRPURKHAS, Sept 9: Thousands of people have been marooned in over 15 villages in Dehs 101 and 106 of the Hussain Bux Mari taluka due to accumulation of rain and saline water.

Speaking at a press conference here on Saturday, speaking on behalf of the affected villagers, Ali Mohammed Maher and Hidayatullah Ghumman said that 100-foot-wide breach had occurred in the LBOD 20 days back and after recent rain the drain overflowed causing flood in the area.

They said that the district administration had not yet given attention to the area and lives of thousands of people, including women and children, have been endangered.

They said that no desilting and maintenance work of the LBOD was made in the district after 1990.

They said that loss of billions of rupees had been reported during heavy rains and breaches in the LBOD.

They demanded that authorities should order an impartial inquiry into negligence of the LBOD authorities.

They said that thousands of livestock had also died of different diseases.

They urged the district administration to arrange helicopters for rescuing lives of villagers and provide food, drinking water and medicines.
