PESHAWAR: JUI pledges to resist change in Islamic laws
Bureau Report
PESHAWAR, Sept 9: The NWFP chapter of Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam has said that it will not allow rulers to change Islamic laws in line with their policy of appeasing the West.
Speaking to journalists at the Peshawar Press Club on Saturday, newly elected JUI provincial general-secretary and MNA from Mardan, Maulana Shujaul Mulk, said that the rulers were bent upon taking dictations from their western masters even on sensitive issues like Hadood laws.
He said the Mutahidda Majlis-i-Amal had made it clear to the rulers not to treat Hadood laws as ordinary laws.
Replying to a question he said, the government had started a so-called debate on Hadood laws to divert the attention of the people from Balochistan, where all the political parties were protesting over the tragic killing of Nawab Akbar Khan Bugti.
He said the federal government wanted to sidetrack people’s continued protest in Balochistan by initiating a meaningless debate on Hadood laws, which could not be challenged as official interpreters were making the efforts.
About North Waziritsan, the MNA said the JUI had played its due role in the newly concluded agreement between government and tribesmen to end the uncertainty in the area.
He denied that they (JUI) had bailed out Gen Pervez Musharraf in North Waziristan by using its religious clout in the tribal agency. He said the JUI had done all in the larger interests of the tribesmen and the country.
