KARACHI: Home deptt clarification

KARACHI, Sept 9: The Sindh Home Department, taking serious notice of a news item about interference of the department in transfers and postings, has expressed its disagreement, saying that the provincial police chief is autonomous under the Police Order-2002.

In a statement issued through the Sindh Press Information Department here on Saturday, the home department disputed the contents of the news item that appeared in Dawn’s Sept 8 issue, relating to the transfer and posting of town police officers and station house officers in Sindh.

The statement claims: “Allegations leveled against the Home Department are not only baseless, incorrect and unfounded, but also hypothetical and imaginary. Postings and transfers of police officials do not fall directly in the ambit of the Home Department and are ordered by the police hierarchy. In the Police Order-2002, the Inspector General has been designated as an ex-officio secretary with complete administrative and financial autonomy.”

However, Dawn stands by its story.
