Police lead on opening day

LAHORE, Sept 8: Police emerged as the top team on the first day of the national Inter-departmental rugby championship by winning both its league matches at Wapda Sports Complex on Friday.

In the four-team contest, Police trounced Railways 24-0 score and then outclassed a strong Wapda 18-5. For Police, Shahzad Ahmad and Sajjad Ahmed scored two try score, each.

In other matches, Wapda and Higher Education Commission drew 12-all.

But in the last league match, HEC stunned Railways 24-8, and the victory helped them finish second in the league stage followed by Wapda and Railways.

On Saturday, the last day of the competition, Police will meet Railways in the first semifinals while HEC take on Wapda. After the prefinals the final will also be played on Saturday.
