Schools in need of subject specialists

By Our Correspondent

GUJRANWALA, Sept 8: The students of Wahando who passed their matriculation examinations could not get further education due to nonavailability of teachers. The government had upgraded Government High School a few years ago and declared it a higher secondary school for boys. However, it failed to appoint teachers (subject specialists) there.

At present, only five teachers were performing their duties.

According to principal Ghulam Nabi Anjum, three of them have been transferred after lifting of ban on transfers while one was deputed as deputy district education officer in Kamoki. The only teacher was also trying to get himself transferred from the remote area.

Meanwhile, students and their parents expressed their concern over closure of admission to intermediate classes and urged the chief minister and education high-ups to depute teachers there.

FIVE ROBBERIES: Armed bandits looted two houses, a filling station, a passerby and took away a motorcycle in five different strikes here on Friday.

Two dacoits entered the house of property dealer Haji Ashraf by scaling its boundary wall in Baghbanpura. They held hostage inmates at gunpoint and locked them in a room. Later, intruders collected Rs50,000 in cash, jewellery and other valuables and escaped.

Four bandits barged into the house of landlord Aslam in Bhakerywali village. They tied all the family members with a rope, gathered Rs70,000 in cash, 13 tolas of gold and other valuables and fled.

Three gunmen snatched Rs12,000 in cash and a pump action gun from the cashier at a filling station in Rahwali.

Ijaz Ahmad of Gill Road, Civil Lines area, was on his way home from the market by his motorcycle when two robbers intercepted him and deprived him of Rs50,000 in cash, a cell phone and his ID card and escaped.

Tanvir Ahmed of Model Town was relieved of his motorcycle (GAO-646) by two armed robbers near Lorry Adda when he was going to his house from the market.

Police have instituted a case and are investigating.k
