Warrants for six MMA leaders

SAHIWAL, Sept 8: A judicial magistrate on Friday issued non-bailable warrants for the arrest of six Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA) leaders and directed police to arrest and produce them in court on October 3.

The warrants were issued for the arrest of opposition leader in the National Assembly Maulana Fazlur Rehman, Punjab Jamaat-i-Islami amir Liaquat Baloch, MNA Maulana Gul Rehman, MNA Maulana Abul Khair Zubair, Senator Prof Sajid Mir and MMA vice-president Maulana Abdul Jalil Naqvi.

The MMA held a protest rally at Jogi Chowk on May 11, 2005, in which its leaders delivered anti-government speeches and distributed provocative material. The city police had registered a case against 24 workers and leaders of the MMA, including four MNAs, under MPO 16 and Section 188 PPC.

The magistrate confirmed the bails of 18 workers and leaders and presented their cases in court. The remaining six leaders did not manage their bails. They were declared proclaimed offenders by the court.

ROBBERS HELD: Ghaziabad police arrested on Thursday night two robbers while their three accomplices made good their escape.

Police received information about the presence of the robbers on which it conducted a raid and arrested Javed Sajjad and Wasim.

The arrested robbers told police that they planned to rob a passenger wagon going from Chichawatni to Burewala.

Police recovered two pistols from their possession.
