KARACHI, Sept 8: A rally was organized here on Friday to mark the International Literacy Day. It was held under the auspices of the department of education and Literacy, Sindh. The rally, taken out from the mausoleum of Father of the Nation Quaid-i-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah, was led by the Special Secretary Education, Sindh, Karim Bux Sarohi.
The teachers of the schools as well as the officials of the education department participated in the rally. On the occasion, Karim Bux Sarohi read out the message of Sindh Minister Dr Hameeda Khuhro.
It was stated that the Education and Literacy Department has undertaken revolutionary measures for the promotion of education in the province. Special attention is also being paid towards girls education in Sindh and those enrolled from class 6th to 10th are being given scholarship at the rate of Rs2,000 per annum.
Free text-books are being distributed among students from class I to 10th in the government schools.
It was pointed out that concerted efforts would have to be made for the promotion of education and it is the national responsibility of every conscious citizen.—APP
