KARACHI, Sept 8: Sindh Minister for Women Development Dr Saeeda Malik on Friday urged the teaching community to keep themselves abreast of the advances in the field of English language teaching.

She was speaking as chief guest at the inaugural session of the 22nd international conference of the Society of Pakistan English Language Teachers (SPELT) here at the Bahria College.

The minister said that SPELT was providing an opportunity to teachers of the Urdu language by allocating time and space in the conference to the teachers and presenters desirous of progress and change in the teaching-learning scenario of the Urdu language in Pakistan.

“English language plays an important role in all spheres of our life, be it trade and commerce, higher education or simple communication”, she observed, adding the traders and business people, desirous of expanding the sale of their goods and services across borders need English.

She further said that the students, who wished to acquire higher education, also needed English to access collection of knowledge and information available in this language.

The minister further said that the government was committed to the cause of education that was way, in the recent budget, the share of education was substantially enhanced.—PPI
