KARACHI: KU convocation postponed

KARACHI, Sept 8: The administration at the University of Karachi has decided to defer its convocation scheduled to be held on Sept 9 in the wake of intermittent rains in the city.

The university registrar, Prof Mohammad Rais Alvi, in a communication said that fresh date of the convocation would be announced later. The administration offices of the university will remain open as usual on Saturday.

However, there is no change in the administrative decision made earlier, regarding the academic activities. Irrespective of the fact that the convocation has been putt off, teaching and examination activities would still remain suspended on Saturday as well. Point buses would ply as usual for employees, said an official concerned of the university.

The varsity held rehearsal for the convocation as per the schedule, but it was only in the afternoon that the rain water accumulated in the convocation ground and thus there remained no option before us except announcing postponement of the convocation, added the official, saying that over 3,000 people, including graduates and their parents, teachers and guests were expected to attend the event.

In the meantime, the acting controller of examination of the university, Naimuddin Qureshi, has announced that all examinations pertaining to BA/BSc supplementary, BDS supplementary and BEd/MEd annual, which were scheduled to be held on September 9 have also been postponed, Now the examinations in question will be held on Sunday, September 17 with no change in time and place of commencement of examination, he added.
