Yes Neighbour Yes lands Defence Day Cup
KARACHI, Sept 6: Five-year-old chestnut Yes Neighbour Yes lived up to his top billing when he posted a facile five-length victory over King Of Sanghar to capture the Defence Day Cup at the Summer Gymkhana race meeting at Karachi Racecourse on Wednesday.
Lying third after negotiating the bend in a field of eight runners after King Of Kings was withdrawn, he overtook King Of Sanghar and Fantasia to register a commendable win. The King Of Arab completed the frame.
With two successive wins under his belt he obliged the punters by completing a hat-trick.
Earlier, three-year-old filly Jan-e-Mun galloped to a four-length victory.
After failing to win top honours in previous runs, she came out with an improved performance, winning the race like a champion.
But the day belonged to trio of Rajar’s, M. Nasir and Mushtaq Ali Khan who together came out with a splendid treble including the other two cups.
Nasir’s first success came when he piloted two-year-old bay colt, Drem Rose, home to capture Kingree Lodged Performance Cup.
In was maiden run for the nine two-year-old colts in which Drem Rose coming from behind edged out Sir Jee by three lengths in a smart time of 50 1/5 seconds.
Continuing with his fine performance, he then toppled favourite Captain Black by sprinting bay colt The Conqueror’s to two-and-a-half lengths victory to grab the Ribot Stakes.
Nasir completed the feat when fancied Silent Angel picked up spoils in the concluding event beating Queen Of Mirwa by five lengths.
Five-year-old chestnut Yanga created quite a stir when he beat fancied Lucky Five to pick up the opener.
As predicted, fancied filly Maid’s Causeway made it two-in-a-row outpacing Mera Jugnoo by two lengths in the next race.
With no form in immediate previous runs, filly Sweet Smile upset the apple cart beating Trust Again by a wide margin of 10 lengths. Sindh Malook secured third position while Your Honour completed the board.
Ridden by Lahore’s Aamir Pervaiz four-year-old bay filly Juliat beat favourite Mir Sikandar in a photo-finish.
