DADU, Sept 6: A six-member Governor’s team inspected different projects of the Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences here on Wednesday.

The team headed by Saleem Khan, principal secretary to the Governor of Sindh, other members of the team included Major Aftab Ahmed Lodhi, additional secretary to the governor for universities, Dr S. M. Qureshi, Nasiruddin Abbasi, Rukhsana Qureshi and Syed Fazilat Mehdi.

The team inspected the National Nursing Institute project. The vice- chancellor of the LUMHS, Professor Jan Mohammad Memon, briefed the team.

He said the project was initiated at a cost of Rs94 million and according to the programme, 150 candidates will be admitted for bachelors and masters degrees in the nursing course every year.

He told the team members that 95 per cent work on the project has been completed.

The team visited another HEC-funded project, the Molecular Biology Laboratory being constructed at cost of Rs37 million. At least 95 per cent work on the project has been completed.

The team also inspected the foreign faculty hostel. Under this project, being constructed at a cost of Rs14.5 million, two community halls and eight rooms for VIPs are being constructed and work would be completed by December 30.

The team also visited the project of integration of IT in medical curriculum and research. The team was informed that 90 per cent work on the project has been completed.

The team members also held a meeting with the LUMHS vice-chancellor and other officials and discussed the quality of work and progress of projects.

The vice-chancellor told the inspection team that all projects of the Higher Education Commission and the Sindh government would be completed within the stipulated period.

He said that at a cost of Rs19 million, work on connectivity and networking of LUMHS campus and hostels project and to establish the database for research was started which would be completed by November 2006.

He said that the project of forensic laboratory at a cost of Rs14 million was near completion.
