KARACHI, Sept 6: The Ulema Mashaikh Council, led by Syed Inayat Hussian Shah, has said that a conspiracy is being hatched to confront army and people against each other.
Advising the political parties to eschew the politics of violent protest and opposition for the sake of opposition as it was not in the interest of the nation and the country.
Pir Inayat Shah, while announcing the council’s Sindh chapter at a press conference in Karachi Press Club on Wednesday, termed the tragedy of Nawab Bugti extremely a sad episode which was now being used to pit army and the people against each other. He held politicians responsible for dragging the army into politics and in the case of Gen Musharraf he specifically named Benazir Bhutto and his party who were inviting the general to play his role against the Nawaz Sharif government.
He said that though the council was purely a religious party, the council members felt it their responsibility to warn people against the anti-Pakistan conspiracy.
The council chief lamented the attitude of parliament members, who were keen to discuss Hudood Ordinance rather than pressing issues of people like unemployment and sky-rocketing prices. He opposed scrapping the Hudood Ordinance saying that there were certain clauses which called for amendment.
Maulana Syed Aun Muhammad Naqvi, newly nominated president of the UMC Sindh chapter, said that the army which had penetrated in every field would never go back to the barracks and every government in future, like present setup, whether led by Benazir Bhutto or Nawaz Sharif would only be formed with the blessings of army. The army could go behind the scene but would continue to control the destiny of the country, he commented.
According to the announcement by Pir Inayat Shah, other office-bearers of UMC Sindh chapter were: Syed Mujahid Hussain Shah vice-chairman, chief organizer S.M. Naqi, Secretary General Syed Tausif Raza, Joint Secretary Mufti Muhammad Aslam Nomani, Secretary Information Syed Sabir Hussain Zaidi and political affairs Maulana Athar Hussain.
