KARACHI, Sept 6: The Afghan Consul-General and his wife were deprived of their valuables at gunpoint by armed suspects in Gulshan-i-Iqbal on Wednesday.
Police said that the Consul General of Afghanistan, Mr Abdul Muqtadir Khan with his wife had come to an eye hospital in Block 4, Gulshan-i-Iqbal on Wednesday evening.
As the diplomat stopped near the hospital in his official vehicle, two suspects intercepted him and demanded valuables at gunpoint.
Later, the bandits fled taking away the purse and jewelry of Muqtadir’s wife, cell phones and cash. Following the incident, the diplomat informed the police.
A senior police official of the Gulshan town said Mr Khan was moving in the city without protocol, which made him an easy target.
ACCIDENT: As many as 29 passengers were injured when a speeding minibus over-turned on Korangi Road road near FTC flyover on Wednesday.
Police said that the minibus reportedly over-turned owing to a pothole on the road. The injured were rushed to Jinnah Hospital where they were provided treatment. Hospital sources said all the injured are in stable condition.
17 held: The Capital City Police Karachi have arrested 17 accused and recovered 11 pistols, four mobile phones, a revolver, 230 grams of hashish and Rs1050 cash from their possession during the last 24 hours in different parts of the city.
The police arrested two accused in the limits of PS Gizri and recovered two pistols.
Another two persons were arrested in PS Artillery Maidan limits and two pistols were recovered from their custody.
Two accused were nabbed from PS Preedy limits and two mobile phones were recovered.
An accused was held from Sharafi Goth limits and 90 gm of hashish recovered from his possession, three were arrested in PS Qaidabad and three pistols recovered. An accused was held in PS Gulbahar limits and four bottles of liquor recovered, while one was held in PS Rizvia limits and a pistol recovered from his custody.
An accused was arrested in PS Chakiwara limits and a revolver was recovered, while two were held in PS SITE limits and a pistol and 140 grams of hashish were recovered, while one accused was nabbed in PS Surjani limits and a pistol and mobile phone and RS 800 cash were recovered from his possession.
