KARACHI, Sept 6: Defence Day of Pakistan was celebrated in the city, like elsewhere in the country, on Wednesday with traditional zeal and fervour. The day-long celebrations began with Quran Khwani for martyrs where participants also prayed for the solidarity of the country. Floral wreaths were laid at Mazar-i-Quaid on behalf of the three services.
Army Air Defence Training Ground, Malir Cantt, was the venue of great public interest where a grand display of arms and equipment and thrilling events enthralled visitors. Corps Commander Lt-Gen Ahsan Azhar Hayat, who opened the event, was the chief guest.
The ‘Fauji Mela’ was the main feature of the event where Navy and Rangers personnel presented spectacular performance. Open action artillery guns, demonstration of fire power, Infantry, drones and air defence weapons systems, anti-terrorist action, etc., were some of the thrilling events at the Mela.
Special arrangements were made to brief visitors through audio and video equipment about the military hardware and actions.
To mark the occasion, the Pakistan Air Force organised a ceremony at the PAF Base Masroor where Air Vice Marshal (r) Nawabzada Rehmat Khan was the chief guest.
At an air show at the base, F-16, F-7P, F-7PG and Mirage planes presented breathtaking aerobics. A large number of visitors, including women and children, watched the show with keen interest.
Pakistan Navy celebrated the Day with Quran Khwani and special prayers for the integrity and solidarity of Pakistan.
Flag hoisting ceremonies were held at all PN ships and establishments.
People from different walks of life visited Pakistan Maritime Museum in large numbers.
