MULTAN, Sept 5: Angiography facility for cardiac patients would be available within three months at the Multan Institute of Cardiology (MIC), says deputy project director Dr Mushtaq Ahmed.

He told APP on Tuesday that the angiography equipment worth Rs45 million, which had already reached the institute, would be installed after the air-conditioning of the entire structure.

He said some 400 patients were being treated daily at the MIC out-patient department (OPD) set up last year.

Dr Mushtaq said the facilities to be added included angiography, emergency, CCU etc, while operation theatres would become functional afterwards.

“There is no paucity of funds in getting this Rs1 billion mega project completed as Punjab Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi wants its commissioning at the earliest,” he added.

The 201-bed cardiology institute is being built on 61 kanals of the former Commissioner House at a cost of about Rs1 billion.

He said Rs676.591 million were meant for the building while Rs322.438 million had been earmarked for equipment, air-conditioning and other needs.

About 12,000 patients were being treated at the institute every month, he said, adding that the number of patients was surging with the increase in facilities.

Medical facilities presently available included echo cardiology, EDD, X-rays, laboratory, dental section and pharmacy, he said. —APP
