Two arrested for stripping widow in public


MULTAN, Sept 5: Khanewal police on Tuesday arrested two men for allegedly stripping off a widow and parading her naked in Chak 93/10-R as punishment for her son reportedly tried to disgrace their cousin a few days back.

Khanewal DPO Shahid Hanif said that accused Umer Draaz and Emtiaz were arrested while their three accomplices — Muhammad Ejaz, Riaz, and Ashraf were on bail.

Khanewal Saddar police have registered a case against the accused on the report of victim Shamim Bibi.

In her FIR, she alleged that she was returning to her house when accused Ejaz, Emtiaz, Riaz, Ashraf and Umer Draaz denuded her and paraded her naked in the village bazaar. The accused also thrashed her.

In the meanwhile, she said that her son arrived there and requested the accused not to disgrace his mother, but they dragged him on the ground and beat him as well. On the intervention of villagers, she said all the accused fled while resorting to aerial firing.

SHOT DEAD: A man was shot dead over a family dispute in Mauza Kadri Tamak,

Chah Dhingaywala, here on Tuesday.

Maqbool Ahmed of Badhla Sant was asleep in his farmhouse when Rabnawaz, Altaf Hussain, Tassawar Abbas and Munawar Abbas came there and shot him dead.

Mushtaq Ahmed told police that his deceased brother had divorced his wife Jannat Mai some time back. On the provocation of Jannat Mai, her second husband Rabnawaz along with his accomplices shot dead Mushtaq, he alleged.

Badhla Sant police have registered a case and are investigating.

ANTI-POLIO DRIVE: A three-day anti-polio campaign will start from Sept 12.

This was stated by EDO Dr Fazal Mehmood Khan at a meeting presided over by the Multan DCO here on Tuesday.

The EDO said that the Health department had constituted 1,732 teams, comprising 4,320 lady health workers, health department staff and volunteers. They would go door-to-door to administer polio drops to around 643,102 children in Multan district.

In addition, he said the Health department had also constituted 159 mobile teams for the purpose.

DCO Iftikhar Babar, district social welfare officer Yasmeen Ghori and representatives of the education department and NGOs also attended the meting.

DIES: An unidentified woman, aged around 40, died at Nishtar Hospital on Tuesday. Her body has been shifted to the mortuary. — Shakeel Ahmed
