KARACHI, Sept 5: Some 0.5 million plants will be planted by schools, private institutions and Nazims of Towns and union councils under the ”Mission Greener Karachi” to be launched on Sept 12.

A resolution will soon be brought before the city council regarding protection and nourishment of trees, said city naib nazim Nasreen Jalil while presiding over a meeting on Tuesday. The meeting was attended by chairmen of various city government committees, EDOs, DDOs of various CDGK departments and other organizations and NGOs.

Nasreen Jalil described trees as of paramount importance to control environmental pollution, and said from Sept 13 to 15, training workshops would be organised in various schools, towns, union councils and other institutions where experts of city government’s horticulture department would deliver lectures on gardening.

She said the drive will be computerised to make the plantation campaign more effective and to maintain record of the plants planted and how many of them grew.

Nasreen Jalil announced that planter of higher number of trees with maximum number shown as survived during the three month campaign would be awarded commendation certificate.

The meeting was informed that officials have made all preparations for making Mission Greener Karachi successful.EDO Education Allah Dad Memon said that Mission Greener Karachi will be observed as a colourful drive in all the schools of Karachi.—PPI
