Byron tipped to win main race
LAHORE, Sept 4: A six-event card featuring the September Cup has been laid out heralding the start of 32-day Lahore Winter Meetings with the first day/night edition at the Racecourse on Tuesday.
The programme was scheduled for Sunday but was postponed due to rains in the city.
The bay colt Byron is being fancied to win the feature event, the September Cup, a class IV division III handicap race to be gone over 1000m.
Byron, placed second behind Quince, benefited from an objection and won the last month’s Independence Day Cup after the horse placed third, lodged objection against the winner for pressing in the last 200m which was upheld. Byron won the race automatically.
Dil Vil, Big Bird and Safe And Sound should fight for the less remunerative positions.
This will be the sixth and last race of the day.
The chestnut colt, Nosha, who registered a facile victory on his previous run will be on the trot to consolidate it to two in-a-row in the fifth and supporting event, a class V division I handicap race.
Among ten runners accepting for the Sama Satta Plate, Nosha is expected to be followed by Eid, Daisy Against All and Al Ain.
The fourth race has a biggest field of 14-runners barring last-minute withdrawals. Of them Simoom, Jewna, Poly Love and Cross Ruff are prominent.
Poly Love is erratic at the starting gate and uncertain as the sports of racing itself is known. Cross Ruff is inconsistent a performer and equally unreliable.
Dark bay colt Tan Man Dhan, who was disqualified on objection after being placed second on June 25, will be on the course to make amends this time.
Among nine runners, if there are no last-minute withdrawals, he has to beat Sohna Billo and Hallow Dancer only.
Red roan colt, High Hope, Billoo The Great and Tosca attract attention in the Second race, the Ravi Plate class VII division I to be contested over 900m. All three are improving on each run.
Capeletti, Kosay Kaza and Dashing Paradise look good among the seven runners left in after the final forfeit. However, Capaeletti and Dashing Paradise should decide about the winner of the race.
