ISLAMABAD, Sept 4: Pakistan Muslim League vice-president Syed Kabir Ali Wasti has appealed to the Supreme Court of Pakistan to take suo motu notice of Nawab Akbar Bugti’s killing, and demanded that the military should return to the barracks.

In a statement on Monday, Mr Wasti criticised the charge-sheet issued by Information Minister Mohammad Ali Durrani against Nawab Bugti and other Baloch nationalist leaders.

He asked Mr Durrani not to repeat the blunders of levelling false charges against political leaders and recalled that similar charges against Sheikh Mujibur Rehman had led to the dismemberment of Pakistan, while baseless charges against Zulfikar Ali Bhutto had damaged national interests.

The PML leader said the so-called fact sheet was neither submitted to the PML central committee nor the cabinet. He said the PML had nothing to do with the killing of Nawab Bugti as the party, its leadership and the chief minister were never consulted.

He said all decisions were taken somewhere else and the PML offices were being set on fire in the province without any fault of the party.

He said recommendations made by the PML leadership stressing solution of the issue through dialogue and peaceful ways were not implemented and put in the cold storage, he added.

“Being a political party we can’t support the wrong stance taken by the information minister,” he added.

He said ministers should not add fuel to the fire and should not raise controversies, particularly when the prime minister was on a foreign tour. He appealed to the people of Punjab to condemn the killing of Nawab Bugti and save the federation instead of remaining silent spectators.

Mr Wasti sympathised with the families of the military officers killed in the operation. He stressed that reconciliation was the need of the hour and dialogue should be initiated with Baloch leaders to save the federation.
