Orphan girl slain by cousins: Greed for land

TOBA TEK SINGH,.Sept 4: A young girl, her mother and her uncle were axed to death in their house at Chak 260 GB on Sunday night by their four relatives who wanted to grab a 12-acre piece of land owned by the murdered girl.

Reports said the girl, Mumtaz Bibi’s father Luqman had died. She lived in the village near Rajana along with her mother and a mentally retarded sister.

Her two cousins Muhammad Ali and Mulazim Ali wanted to marry her to get the piece of land, but her mother Paras Bibi had repeatedly refused the proposals.

Sources close to the family said the cousins had been issuing life threats to the girl and her mother for the last few months.

On receiving threats, Paras Bibi had recently submitted an application with the district and sessions judge, apprehending that she and her daughter could be killed by her nephews. If this happened, she further submitted, the land be transferred to some seminary.

On Sunday night, the accused, along with their two other cousins Mansab Ali and Ali Sher and an accomplice, Shabbir, barged into their house and attacked Mumtaz and her mother with axes and sharp knives, killing the women on the spot. The accused also killed girl’s uncle Saiful Malook, who tried to rescue the women. Police had made no arrests so far.

CAR SNATCHED: Nawan Lahore police registered on Monday a case against unidentified dacoits who snatched away a car from a trader’s driver.

Complainant Rashid informed the police that his driver Khan Bahadur was returning from a school after dropping his children when eight men in traffic police uniforms stopped him near the Faisalabad Government College University. The accused injected the driver with some tranquilizer, making him unconscious, and took away the vehicle (LFJ-834).

KILLED: A farmer was crushed to death on Monday near Chak 415-JB in Nawan Lahore area by unknown vehicle. Deceased Mubashir was reportedly crossing the road when the accident took place.
