KARACHI, Sept 4: Baloch women staged a protest demo on Monday against police raids on their houses in Lyari. The protestors, who had gathered at Karachi Press Club from Kalri Ali Mohammad Mohalla, condemned the police raids on their houses on the pretext of search of youth who had allegedly participated in the protest rallies against the killing of Baloch leader Nawab Akbar Bugti.
Holding banners and placards, they shouted slogans like ‘stop raiding our houses’ and ‘we condemn victimization of Baloch youth at the hands of law-enforcement agencies’.
MNA Nabil Gabol also participated in the rally and condemned the brutal action of police. He said that law and order situation was deliberately being created in Lyari areas. He pointed out that police were conducting raids for the last three days in different parts of Baloch areas in the city in search of protesting youth who had reacted to the tragic Kholu incident by holding peaceful rallies.
Describing the police act as extremely brutal, Nabil Gabol urged the high authorities of government and police including IG to stop police excesses in Baloch populated areas.He said that Baloch people would no longer tolerate police brutality and it was high time that the authorities should take a serious note of the situation.
A woman activist claimed that the law and enforcement agencies had picked up Baloch youths and taken them to unknown places for participating in the rallies being held against the murder of Baloch nationalist leader. She further said that the raids were conducted in Lyari, Trans-Lyari including Old Golimar, Malir, Muwach Goth, Yusuf and Raees Goth in Keamari Town.According to the protestors, false cases were also being registered against Baloch youths on charges of damaging property and arson. They alleged that police was deliberately creating hatred among the Baloch youths by fomenting ethnic feeling, saying that the youths were being punished and tortured to suppress their voice.
Later, some activists of non-governmental organizations joined the rally and slammed the police action in Baloch areas, saying that even children were not spared.
They argued that brutal actions would always create hatred and unrest among the people, saying that in sequel of police action, an uneasy calm prevailed in Baloch populace because of rein of terror created by the law enforcement agencies. They also alleged that many youths had been missing, probably taken by secret agencies for grilling, and their families were in state of shock as they were not being informed about their whereabouts.
They urged the political parties to press the government for the release of arrested youths and stop unlawful raids on their houses.
