KARACHI: Each supervisor to execute only one project

KARACHI, Sept 3: City Nazim Syed Mustafa Kamal on Saturday impressed upon the officials concerned to monitor work on uplift projects, and called for deputing one engineer for each of the ongoing projects.

Speaking at a meeting of the city government’s Works and Services Department, he stressed the need for accelerating the pace of work on various development projects.

“The engineer will be responsible for any unnecessary delays and technical faults in the project,” he told participants of the meeting. EDO Works and Services Amanullah Chachar, Project Director Tameer-i-Karachi Programme Rauf Akhtar Farooqui, besides chief engineers, executive engineers and officers from various CDGK departments, attended the meeting.

The nazim noted that due to having supervisory responsibilities of many projects, one officer could not pay full attention to a particular project which might lead to a lapse of delay in the progress of work.

Therefore, it has been decided that one officer should be assigned the responsibility of only one project for which he will assume full responsibility.

Mr Kamal ordered removal of unwanted concrete from the roads around the sites of the under-construction projects in order to ensure a smooth flow of a maximum number of vehicles. He said the patch work on roads also be started at the earliest.

The meeting decided to set up a separate maintenance division within the Works and Services Department to get all the potholes filled and carry out patch work wherever required on an emergency basis. For this, a specific allocation would be made in the next year’s budget, he said.

The nazim was also briefed about the progress of ongoing construction and repair work on different roads in the city.

He directed the EDO Works and Project Director of the Tameer-i-Karachi Programme to personally visit the sites of the under-construction projects to inspect the progress and quality of work.

At a separate meeting in his office, the city nazim decided to set up a joint committee, comprising city government and KESC officials, to plan and organise shifting of KESC cables from the sites of uplift projects.

Mr Kamal informed the meeting that talks were also being held with the SSGC and PTCL to shift their cables from the project sites to the specified channels.

VISIT: The city nazim, accompanied by the KWSB Managing Director Brig Iftikhar Haider, visited the Bath Island areas badly affected by flooding during the recent monsoon rain.

He also inspected work for cleaning of the nullah near Glass Tower, and held out the assurance that the drainage problem in Bath Island would be resolved on a permanent basis as steps were being taken in this regard.

FIRECRACKERS: City Nazim Syed Mustafa Kamal has imposed a ban under Section 144 on the manufacturing, use, sale and transportation of fireworks within the city limits. The ban has come into effect immediately and will remain in force for one month.

There will also be a ban on the storage of explosive material without permission from the concerned authority.

Besides, aerial firing has also been banned.

The step has been taken to protect people’s life and property and avoid peaceful atmosphere getting disturbed, according to a statement issued by the city government here on Sunday.—APP
