KARACHI, Sept 2: The 35th Karachi Table Tennis Championship which will be played at Islamia Club, once a hub of the game, from Sept 8 to 13 will unearth new talent to mark the revival of the game in the city.
This will be the first championship being held under the aegis of the new body, chairman KTTA, Dr. Farhan Essa, told a news conference on Saturday.
Karachi’s contribution to the sport has been unparallel as it has thrown scores of men and women national champions since the country’s inaugural premier championship in 1953 which was won by Dr. Essa Mohammad.
Juniors U-18 and Cadet U-15 categories have been included for the first time in addition to men and women singles, doubles and team events. The mixed doubles event has been dropped.
The individual contest will be held on the round robin league until top 32 who will play on the knock-out basis.
Outlining details, he said KTTA has emphasised upon the affiliated clubs to organise a local competition every month in rotation. It will be an Open contest providing an opportunity to departmental players to feature.
