KARACHI, Sept 2: Chief Justice of Sindh High Court Justice Sabihuddin Ahmed on Saturday proposed constitution of an independent board authorised to review the decisions announced by the Office of Sindh Ombudsman.

He suggested this while speaking as a chief guest at the Envisioning Conference-I, organised by Provincial Ombudsman Office here at a hotel.

He also suggested that the Provincial Ombudsman department should provide investigative reports or outcomes in different matters to the concerned authorities or parties before holding a final hearing which, he said, would lead to an improved efficiency.

Appreciating the performance of Sindh Ombudsman to curb maladministration, he said an independent board should be constituted which could review the decisions of Sindh Ombudsman office.

The chief justice said the department of Ombudsman is doing the job which courts are not able to do due to certain limitations.

Earlier, Sindh Ombudsman Yousuf Jamal said he had got approval of the five regional offices of Sindh Ombudsman at a meeting with Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan and nine field offices of the department are working in Sindh.

Talking about the envisioning conference-I, he said it is the first event of this kind focusing attention to increase the qualitative outreach of ombudsman department because justice cannot be delivered in entire Sindh by sitting in Karachi. He stressed the need for creating an awareness among people about availability of offices of Ombudsman to be approached for resolution of their legitimate grievances, without any fees or complicated process.

Speaking on the occasion, City Naib Nazim, Nasreen Jaleel said the department of Provincial Ombudsman is playing a proactive role for dispensation of administrative justice among people.

She said the setting up of regional and field offices of Sindh Ombudsman in other parts of the province speaks the determination of the government to resolve problems of the people.

Among others Additional Advocate General, Sindh, Anwer Mansoor Khan also spoke.—APP
