ISLAMABAD, Aug 31: A ‘special’ corps commanders’ conference has been convened on Friday to discuss the situation created by the death of Baloch nationalist leader Nawab Akbar Bugti in a military operation.
Sources told Dawn that the conference would be held at the army General Headquarters in Rawalpindi and President Pervez Musharraf would preside over it.
It would discuss a one-point agenda of the law and order situation in the country in the aftermath of the incident, particularly the violent reaction in Balochistan and parts of Sindh, they said.
The sources said the meeting would be informed about the circumstances in which Nawab Bugti was killed.
President Musharraf was likely to brief the participants about the operation against ‘miscreants’, they said.
They said the conference would take into account reports that Punjabis were being killed and their property looted in Balochistan, especially after the killing of Nawab Bugti. The meeting would be briefed by the Military Intelligence chief about the elements behind the law and order situation, they said.
