First ODI in Cardiff washed out

CARDIFF, Aug 30: Rain meant the first, day/night, one-day international of a five-match series between England and Pakistan ended in a no-result at Sophia Gardens here on Wednesday.

Earlier, Pakistan were set 159 runs to win from 32 overs according to the Duckworth-Lewis calculation after the first one-day international against England was interrupted by rain.

Play was delayed for 95 minutes and restarted under floodlights at 1931 GMT after Mohammad Asif had claimed three wickets for 28 runs to help restrict England to 202 in their innings. England, put into bat, lost their last six batsmen for 36 runs as Asif and paceman Shoaib Akhtar wreaked havoc.—Agencies
