Nawaz supports strike call

LONDON, Aug 30: Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif has appealed to the people of Pakistan to wholeheartedly support opposition’s call for general strike on September 1 against the killing of Nawab Akbar Bugti by Musharraf regime.

In a statement on Wednesday the chief of PML-N said ever-changing statements of the government about the incident proved that the government was concealing facts. He said government’s policy of killing political opponents was horrendous for the society because people could not be subjugated by bullets.

He said long durations of martial law had always created a sense of deprivation among the people of smaller provinces. The policies of Musharraf regime had hit the internal harmony of Pakistan. “Today Pakistan stands at crossroads and if agenda of undemocratic forces is not checked, our future will be at stake and the country will plunge into a serious crisis of trust,” he added.—Online
