12 Sri Lankan troops killed

By Our Correspondent

COLOMBO, Aug 29: Twelve Sri Lankan soldiers have been killed in clashes with the Tamil Tigers in Trincomalee district. The fighting erupted last week after the army started an operation to clear Muttur, a predominantly Muslim town in the district, of landmines to facilitate the return of 45,000 Muslims displaced earlier this year as a result of clashes between the security forces and LTTE.
