Political parties submit account statements

By Our Staff Reporter

ISLAMABAD, Aug 29: Some 50 political parties of the country on Tuesday submitted their annual statement of party accounts on the last day before the Election Commission to let them qualify for an election symbol for the next general elections.

“Almost all the major political parties have fulfilled the legal requirement by filing their respective statement of accounts,” Secretary Election Commission Kanwar Mohammad Dilshad told Dawn here on Tuesday.

The Pakistan Muslim League (PML), PML-N, PPP- Parliamentarians, PPP-Patriots, PPP-Sherpao, Muttahida Majlis-i- Amal, Muttahida Qaumi Movement, Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf and others have submitted the statements he said adding Jamaat-i-Islami and JUI-F have also submitted their separate party accounts other than that of the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal.

Complete details of eligible parties would be issued in a couple of days, the secretary said.

Earlier on Monday, Chief Election Commissioner Justice (retd) Qazi Muhammad Farooq had reminded the political parties to submit their statement of party accounts by Aug 29, to avoid disqualification from getting an electoral symbol for the next general elections.

Article 13 of the Political Parties Order 2002 mandates every political party of the country to submit before the Election Commission their consolidated statement of accounts duly audited by Chartered Accountants within 60 days from the close of each financial year.
