Shujaat links quitting NA to PPP’s resignation

ISLAMABAD, Aug 29: Pakistan Muslim League president Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain has conditionally offered to resign from the National Assembly on the issue of the killing of former chief minister of Balochistan Nawab Akbar Khan Bugti.

Speaking in the National Assembly during debate on the no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz on Tuesday, the PML chief offered to resign from the assembly provided People’s Party Parliamentarians president Makhdoom Amin Faheem submitted resignations of at least 20 members of his party.

He was responding to speeches of the PPP leaders Amin Faheem and Chaudhry Aitzaz Ahsan.

Mr Faheem accused the government of inflicting a fatal blow to the unity of the federation by killing Nawab Bugti in a military action.

Aitzaz Ahsan reminded Chaudhry Shujaat of his statement that the deceased had saved the life of his late father Chaudhry Zahoor Elahi in the 1970s.

He said late Nawab Bugti in his capacity as the Balochistan governor had been kind to the Chaudhris and now Mr Shujaat should at least resign in protest against the target killing of the veteran leader.

Responding to the demand, Chaudhry Shujaat said he was ready to resign provided Mr Fahim handed over resignations of 20 PPP MNAs to the speaker.—PPI
