KARACHI: Bugti’s killing condemned

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, Aug 29: Political leaders representing all shades of opinion on Tuesday condemned the murder of Nawab Akbar Bugti and paid tributes to his leadership for laying his life for the rights of Baloch people.

They said the gruesome murder has raised many questions in the mind of people, saying why leaders who stood for the democratic rights of the people had always been made a target by military rulers.

In a statement issued here, Mumtaz Ali Bhutto, chairman, Sindh Qaumi Ittehad and Sindh National Front, has put a question to the government if they are willing to kill leaders of the caliber of Nawab Bugti to enforce their writ, why then are terrorists and bandits allowed to roam free in Sindh?

According to him, in fact the government cannot conceal the fact that only those political leaders are its target who demand a just order and restoration of their democratic rights while a free hand is given to those who are fellow travelers of the government.

He went on to say that by launching military operations against its own citizens and killing them by the hundred this government has lost all pretence of being a peoples government and the right to stay in power. Thus, the urgent need is for the ARD and the MMA to stop issuing empty threats and launch a nation-wide movement for removing this government from power and holding fair and free elections.

The provincial executive committee of Jamaat-i-Islami discussed the Sept 1 strike call being observed all over the country against the killing of Nawab Akbar Bugti.

Addressing the meeting JI provincial chief Dr Mumtaz Ali Memon accused the military rulers of creating the East Pakistan-like situation in the country by taking brutal and dictatotial steps.

Describing the killing as an extra judicial act, the JI meeting called for filing a murder case against the rulers.

The meeting discussed various measures to make the strike call effective and peaceful.

It said the people of Sindh had always a vanguard role in the struggle for restoration of democracy and against dictatorship and they would continue to play the same role in future also.

The JI meeting also debated issues relating to women and assured that it would fully safeguard their rights, but it said the bill tabled by the rulers was in fact a bill of exploitation of women.

Condemning the killing of Nawab Bugti, Awami, National Party Provincial chief Shahi Syed said it was an extrajudicial and urged the judiciary to take notice of it.

He termed the Kohlu incident a great tragedy and stressed that military operation in Balochistan should be stopped immediately and steps be taken for finding a peaceful solution to Balochistan problem.

Pakistan Fishermen Forum also condemned the killing of Baloch nationalist leader and paid tributes to Nawab Akbar Bugti for laying his life to protect his land and resources.

It termed the Kohlu incident a worst form of state terrorism, saying fishermen community fully shares the

feelings of Nawab’s family at this critical hour.

Opposition will move a condolence resolution on the gruesome murder of slain Baloch nationalist leader Nawab Mohammad Akbar Khan Bugti in the City Council when it meets on Thursday.

The session has been called by City Niab Nazim Nasreen Jalil to discuss a 10-point agenda on different subjects tabled by the treasury members.

According to Opposition leader Saeed Ghani, the killing of veteran Baloch leader who was also a great political leader of the country has stunned every citizen.

He said we would request the chair to suspend the normal business and let the house members to pay their homage to the Baloch leader who was killed in a military operation.
