President seeks to calm rioters

MURREE, Aug 28: President Pervez Musharraf Monday sought to calm the people of Balochistan after two days of rioting over the killing of Nawab Akbar Bugti, but warned any rebellion would be crushed.

Addressing a big public gathering at the Lawrence College, Ghora Gali, held in connection with the inauguration of the supply of gas to the area, the president said he was committed to improving conditions in the province.

He also warned that insurgents would be defeated.

“I warn those elements who speak against Pakistan, those who are against the country’s progress and sovereignty,” Musharraf said.

“Whoever wants to harm Pakistan nationally or internationally would have to fight with me first”, the president said.
