LAHORE, Aug 28: Fancied chestnut colt, Quince put up a smashing performance winning the main supporting event run over 1200m during the day and night Lahore Summer Meeting at the Racecourse on Sunday.
Ridden confidently by jockey Shahid Rehman, Quince fully justified his being an odds on favourite at 20 to 100.
He defeated Jut Bahadur (Aapar Parvaiz up) by over two lengths easily. Bay filly Eid (Faisal Tahir) and Simoom (M. Hanif) completed the frame among seventeen starters.
Quince had won the race in the same class a fortnight back under the same jockey but lost it on objection. His Sunday's running was flawless. Owned by Mohammad Qasim Chaudhry the winner is trained by A. B. Malik. This was the fifth race of the day.
The most interesting aspect of the race was that atleast five top riders rode in this race with four of them occupying the frame, Shahid Rehman excelled returning home victorious.
As the horses returned to the unsaddling enclosure, a high velocity windstorm followed by heavy downpour disrupted the proceedings. All of a sudden the racetrack became a pool of water and unfit for racing.
The Lahore Race Club stewards meeting presided over by chairman Tariq Aziz decided to cancel the sixth and feature event. This reduced the race card to five events.
Earlier a rank outsider chestnut gelding Trump Coup stormed home to win the fourth race upsetting all calculations. He beat favourite Volcano by over five lengths. Hallow Dancer and Shaba Queen completed the board.
Sire Cisco Wells's progenies continued their winning streak even on Sunday to bring the total to double figure within two months, with bay horse, Dancing Star winning the third race. He beat Royal Fish by a neck.
Except Trump Coup the other four winners were heavily backed, Dama Dam, Eye Of The Tiger, Dancing Star were even money favourite while Quince was an odds on favourite. All events were contested over the sprinting distance of 1200 metres.
LRC stewards were not satisfied with the handling of Bahar-Bhakkar by riding boy Anjum. In the opener.
The dare devil was seen pulling the colt infront of the grand stand. They questioned Anjum and not being satisfied with his explanation suspended him for two months.
