ISLAMABAD, Aug 28: The government has asked consultants of the Privatisation Commission (PC) to furnish within three days their ‘individual reports’ about the cancelled Pakistan Steel Mills (PSM) privatisation deal so that it could decide whether to file a petition and ask the Supreme Court to review its judgment.
Though the government had decided to file a review petition, officials said on Monday that the final decision would be taken in a meeting on Aug 31 under Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz.
The commission’s consultants have also been asked to remove procedural and technical bottlenecks in the mills’ privatisation, which were pointed out by the apex court in its detailed judgment.
They had been asked to suggest a strategy to meet “the lengthy criteria” set down by the Supreme Court for inviting fresh Expression of Interests. An official said that consultants have been asked to evaluate the land attached to the mills.
