LAHORE, Aug 27: Former prime minister Mian Nawaz Sharif said on Sunday that brains behind the killing of JWP president Nawab Akbar Bugti had sown seeds of hatred, adding that further damage could be controlled only if all political parties expressed solidarity with the people of Balochistan.

Talking to Dawn from London, Mr Sharif said the ruling Pakistan Muslim League should now part ways with the military rulers.

“Although there is little hope that the ruling party leaders will part company with the generals, I will still like to suggest them in the larger national interest that they repent their past conduct and rejoin hands with the people and democratic forces”.

He warned that in case democratic forces failed to get united even at this crucial juncture, “we may lose the country”.

A meeting of the Alliance for the Restoration of Democracy (ARD) will be held in Islamabad on Monday to chalk out the alliance’s future course of action.

ARD president Makhdoom Amin Fahim said Mr Bugti had been subjected to target killing and the tragic incident would destabilise the country. He said the ‘performance’ of rulers had established that the dictatorship did not have the capacity to resolve differences through talks.

Mr Sharif said the killing of Mr Bugti had created a ‘very serious situation’ for the country, adding that the vote of no-confidence had now become a secondary issue.
