KARACHI, Aug 27: Two home players were among eight who stormed into the main round of second leg of ITF Pakistan World Junior Ranking tennis championship by winning their qualifying round matches at the Islamabad Club on Sunday.
Syed Abbas Raza disposed of compatriot Malik Abdul Rehman 6-2, 6-1 while Imran Shaukat accounted for Sri Lankan Guyanga Weerasekera 7-5, 6-0.
Joining them in the main draw were five Indians – Akshay Kohli, Shangwan Shiva, Parul Virma, Muddappa Nanda Appanervanda and Mansingh Athare and Kreangkrai Prajouabphansri from Thailand.
According to the draws, Thailand’s Krittanu Puthong has been top seeded. He is followed by Ryan Cheung (US), Omer Barar (Pakistan) and Rahul Belwal (India).
Pakistan’s Yasir Khan toppled Krittanu 6-4, 6-4 in the semi-final of the first leg.
Prariyawat Ratana Krong of Thailand has been top seeded in the girls to be followed by Indians Vishakha Cheoran and Krina Ahuja (Ind) and Parichart Charoensukployphol of Thailand.
Meanwhile, the boys’ singles final between Yasir Khan and Tanveer Ashiq which was to be played on Sunday was postponed due to heavy rains. It has been rescheduled for Monday at 3.30pm.
