NEW HAVEN (Connecticut), Aug 27: Russian Nikolay Davydenko warmed up for the US Open in the best possible manner as he beat Argentine 10th seed Agustin Calleri 6-4, 6-3 to win the New Haven event on Saturday.

The second seed broke once in the first set and twice in the second as he wrapped up victory in one hour, 21 minutes.

The win gave Davydenko his third title of the year, but his first on hard courts.

In the women’s singles final, America’s Lindsay Davenport suffered an injury scare on the eve of the US Open when she was forced to retire from the WTA final against Justine Henin-Hardenne.

Davenport was trailing 6-0, 1-0 to the Belgian second seed when she conceded the match due to a right shoulder injury.

Henin-Hardenne, playing her first tournament since finishing runner-up to France's Amelie Mauresmo at Wimbledon, clinched her fifth title of the season.—Agencies
