RAWALPINDI, Aug 27: A class 9th student kidnapped for Rs50 million ransom from Westridge about one week ago was recovered by the police from Swabi after an encounter in which one of the kidnappers was allegedly killed on Sunday.
However, the police were unable to arrest the kidnappers who slipped away from the scene during the police raid.
Yasir Alam, son of a retired army officer, was kidnapped by some unidentified persons from Westridge on August 20. Later, the father of the boy received a telephone call from the kidnappers who demanded the huge ransom.
After the case was registered with the Westridge police and FIR sealed, the police started hunting the boy. As the police found a clue to the kidnappers, a team comprising ASP Rizwan Manzoor and DSP Rana Shahid was sent to Swabi to recover the boy.
A police source said as the police raided the kidnappers’ den, one of the kidnappers identified as Akram committed suicide by shooting himself due to fear of arrest. Police claimed that no ransom was paid to the kidnappers. The police party arrived Rawalpindi along with the boy on Sunday and handed him over to his parents.
