HYDERABAD, Aug 27: The Awami Tehrik on Sunday called for a ‘mourning week’ from Monday in protest against the killing of Nawab Akbar Bugti and his associates in Balochistan.

During the week, protest demonstrations would be held in Sindh to condemn the gory killing.

Speaking at a press conference at the press club, Awami Tehrik chief Rasool Bux Palijo said that the murder of Nawab Bugti at the hands of the establishment had plunged the entire country into an unprecedented and unpredictable crisis which would have disastrous consequences.

He said that the murder was not only one of the worst incidents in the history of Pakistan but also the worst example of fascist thinking of the establishment.

He said that it was an unpardonable crime.

He expressed solidarity of the oppressed nations and the democratic forces of the country with the family of Nawab Bugti and the Baloch.

Mr Palijo said that the establishment had crossed all limits of morality and on the one hand it had sold the sovereignty of the country to international imperialism and on the other it was using against people weapons which had been purchased with people’s money.

He said that the same group had given a licence to terrorists in Sindh to loot and plunder resources of the province and terrorise people.

He said that conspiracies were being hatched to construct dams on the Indus river to ruin Sindh while an operation had been launched against the people of Balochistan.

Mr Palijo said that hundreds of youth of Sindh and Balochistan had been picked up and made to disappear from the face of the earth.

He said that the murder of Nawab Bugti would have enormous repercussions not only in Balochistan but in the entire country.

He cautioned the Mursharraf government and the establishment that no fascist government had ever been able to conquer its own people. He cited the examples of Ayub Khan, Yayah Khan and Ziaul Haq.

He demanded that the Musharraf government should resign forthwith and the apex court should take suo motu notice of the barbaric incident.

Mr Palijo demanded that the body of Nawab Akbar Bugti should be handed over to his heirs and the party.

He said that a delegation of Awami Tehrik would leave for Balochistan soon to express solidarity with the family of Nawab Akbar Bugti and the people of Balochistan.

Syed Alam Shah, Vishnu Mal and Jami Chandio were also present on the occasion.
