A bid to fight street crime in Ghakkhar Town

By Our Correspondent

GUJRANWALA, Aug 26: On the orders of Punjab IGP, SHO Hafiz Imtiaz Ahmed on Saturday launched `thekari pehra’ system to avert street crime in Ghakkhar Town. He declared about half a dozen villages sensitive owing to increase in crime rate and deployed police force there.

Reports said crime graph in Ghakkhar Town was on the rise due to the alleged inefficiency of former SHO Malik Fiaz Ahmad who failed to arrest proclaimed offenders and criminals. DPO Mian Muhammad Asif had suspended him from service and appointed inspector Hafiz Imtiaz Ahmed as SHO.

Hafiz Imtiaz convened a meeting of nazims, naib nazims and councillors of the town and imposed `thekari pehra’ system to fight street crime with their cooperation.

The meeting reviewed crime situation in remote areas and declared Nat Kalan, Ibanwali, Wianwali and Kotli sensitive and enhanced police patrol there with thekari pehra system.
