Bhuttonagar demolished

SAHIWAL, Aug 26: The Sahiwal Tehsil Municipal Administration on Saturday bulldozed 150 shops and 40 houses established during the reign of the late Zulfikar Ali Bhutto on Jhall Road.

The locality, known as Bhuttonagar, was developed on the state land. The aggrieved families took out a protest procession which was led by UC nazim Arshad Bhutta and councillor Tariq Husain. The protesters marched through the city bazaars and reached the district courts where they staged a sit in outside the office of the DCO. They raised slogans against the municipal administration for bulldozing their houses and shops.

When contacted, they told newsmen that on Friday acting chief officer Abdul Khalid had approached them and asked to pay Rs1,000 per shop and house. They had refused to pay the amount and today their structures were demolished in revenge.

They demanded suspension of Abdul Khaliq, Tariq Abdullah and Ghulam Habib of the municipal committee and hold an impartial inquiry with provision of alternative land for their settlement. — Correspondent
