KARACHI, Aug 26: Two Al Qaeda suspects, accused of masterminding suicide car bombing to kill US diplomat in Karachi, have been identified by three eyewitnesses during an identification parade on Saturday.

Anwarul Haq and Osman Ghani were produced before the judicial magistrate Khoshi Mohammad of Karachi South and three eyewitnesses Mohammad Afzal, Idrees and Ali Rehman identified them in identification parade, investigation officer of the case Ateequr Rehman told PPI.

The accused, arrested by the Anti-Violent Crime Cell on Aug 22 from Hijrat Colony, are accused of preparing plot for car bombing near US Consulate in Karachi on March 2 in which four persons, including US diplomat David Foy and three Pakistanis were killed and 48 others injured.

According to the police, the alleged suicide attacker, who was later identified as Mohammad Tahir, had rammed a car packed with explosives into a vehicle carrying the US diplomat soon as it left the consulate gate.

The blast came just two days before the US President George Bush's scheduled visit to Pakistan.

The accused were also on police remand till Aug 29.

One absconding co-accused Mohammad Zafar alias Qari Zafar, a main mastermind of the case was still at large.—PPI
