RAWALPINDI, Aug 25: A police party was beaten up on Friday by women and children as it raided their house “mistakenly” because of incorrect address. The address was given to them by a suspected gambler who later slipped away from the Banni police station, police sources said.

The police party reportedly sent by Supervisory Police Officer (SPO) Banni to conduct a raid on a gambling den, clashed with the inmates of the house situated in the jurisdiction of Waris Khan (another) police station.

During the clash, the police party was reportedly beaten up by the women. However, the policemen carried out search of the house but failed to find any gambler.

Banni SHO Asghar Gorya said: “There were some people of the SPO who raided a house where some women gathered. On seeing the women’s gathering, the police party returned.”

The SHO said Mr Irfan, a police informer, telephoned the SPO that there was a gambling den operating in Saidpuri gate, if a raid was conducted many gamblers could be arrested. Following the informer’s telephone, the SPO sent a raiding party to the said house which turned out to be a wrong person’s house situated in the Waris Khan police station area.

When asked about the fleeing of Irfam from police custody, inspector Asghar Gorya said: “Irfan was with police party and he slipped away during the raid (not from police custody).”

The police raiding party was comprising one SI, one ASI, two constables and five plainclothes.
